Style in Transit
Travelling for work is something you either love or hate and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. Averaging two continents per week I make shopping lists that see me buying DVDs and tea in Shanghai, tropical fruits in Bangkok and cheese and bread in Paris. But the best thing about hitting a new city every week is the fashion. My inner sartorial voyeur is spoiled for choice observing the edgy street fashion in London, and the quirky cute garb favoured in Beijing.
Inspiration is always around the corner and living in such an image conscious city like Dubai, I’m always looking for ways to refresh my basics on a budget- because we don’t all have oil heir credit status. Luckily, I’ve picked up tips on how to streamline my packing repertoire that includes the bare style essentials- no matter the climate. A pair of skinnies with boots, or for warmer climes a flattering sun dress with flats can form the foundation of any fashion forward outfit. Your supermarket variety tights add a trans seasonal flair to every skirt or dress, and never forget the versatility of black leggings.
The real secret is in the accessories: You can update your look and add polish with an investment item like a luxe handbag or fun statement jewellery and printed scarves. The fashion equivalent to an iced tea on a scorching summer day, an overseas sourced accessory serves as both a momento to your trip and a refreshing addition to the most banal basics- way more chic than tourist trap key rings (ok I admit to buying those too). Whether you bring them with you on your travels or go on a shopping pilgrimage at the destination- accessories lend style a pluralistic factor no matter where you land.
